How to Speed Up Your Laundry Routine and Actually Enjoy It

I sat down with Real Simple to debate pods versus liquid detergent, share a hot take on washing frequency, and break down smarter scent strategies.

There is endless advice out there on how to run a business. You can find a million frameworks for scaling operations, raising capital, and building special forces teams. But nobody talks about how to run a load of laundry.

It sounds funny, but think about it. Running a business is hard. Raising a family is harder. Between weekly date nights with Ashley, Saturday mornings with our daughter, and driving execution at a $30M brand, time is my most valuable asset.

You cannot afford to waste hours every week on broken household routines. Time is the one thing you cannot buy more of.

Busy is not the same as better. You need systems that actually work.

That is exactly why I was pumped when Real Simple called me up. They wanted me to weigh in on how to speed up your laundry routine and actually enjoy the process. We dove straight into the great debates of the laundry room. No fluff, just the tactics that actually move the needle.

Eliminate the Friction

At Laundry Sauce, we live and breathe this stuff. The pods versus liquid detergent debate is one of the biggest divides in the industry. Let me give it to you straight.

Liquid detergent is a flawed system. It is messy. It is heavy to lug around. Worst of all, people almost always use too much of it. When you pour liquid soap into a plastic cup, you are guessing. You are hoping you hit the right line.

That guesswork leaves a sticky residue on your clothes. It gunks up your washing machine. It wastes your hard-earned money. You would never run your business operations based on total guesswork. Why do it with your clothes?

Pods are about precision. You get the exact perfect dose every single time. You drop a pod into the drum and walk away. There is no measuring. There are no spills. There is no wasted time.

If you want to speed up your routine, you need to eliminate the friction. Pods do exactly that. They take the thinking out of the process so you can focus on getting sh*t done.

Challenge the Old Playbook

Next up, we tackled the dryer. This is another area where people just do what their parents did without ever stopping to question if that old playbook is cooked.

Dryer sheets have been the default for decades. They do the job. But dryer balls are gaining serious traction for a very practical reason.

They physically create space between your clothes as they tumble around the drum. That extra space allows hot air to circulate much better. Better circulation means faster drying times.

Faster drying times mean you get your time back. It also means you use less energy. Plus, dryer balls are reusable for a long time. It is a simple, highly efficient swap that makes your entire process better. Execution is in the details, and this is a detail you should not ignore.

Treat Your Wardrobe Like an Investment

I shared a hot take with the Real Simple team that surprises a lot of people. Most people wash their clothes way too often.

Unless you just finished a grueling workout, spent the day getting your hands dirty in the trenches, or spilled coffee right down your shirt, you do not need to wash that garment after one single wear.

Overwashing destroys your fabrics. It is that simple. The constant agitation in the washing machine breaks down the fibers. The hot water fades the colors. The heat from the dryer shrinks the fit. You are significantly shortening the lifespan of your wardrobe by tossing everything straight into the hamper by default.

Treat your clothes like an investment. Let your denim breathe. Hang up your sweaters after you wear them. Wash your pieces when they actually need it.

Your clothes will look brand new for a lot longer. Even better, you will literally cut your laundry workload in half. That is hours of your life given back to you every single month. That is the point of optimizing your systems.

Make It an Experience

We also got into scent strategy and sorting smarter. These are the details that turn a boring chore into an experience you actually look forward to.

Do not just throw a massive pile of clothes into the machine and hope for the best. That is a recipe for disaster. Upgrading your laundry process takes exactly two extra minutes on the front end, but it saves you from completely ruining a favorite shirt on the back end.

Here is how you actually execute a flawless wash day:

  • Separate heavy fabrics. Keep your jeans and towels away from your lightweight delicates.
  • Isolate your darks. Keep them far away from your bright whites to avoid total disasters.
  • Upgrade your scent. Ditch generic grocery store soap for a premium fragrance that commands respect.

Your scent is your signature. It enters the room before you do. It lingers after you leave. We looked at luxury fragrance houses like Hermes and Le Labo, and we realized nobody was bringing that relentless focus on excellence to laundry.

You do not want to smell like cheap soap. You want something that makes you feel confident when you put your shirt on in the morning. Changing what you wash with changes the entire game.

Dial In Your Routine

Huge thanks to the Real Simple team for including me alongside some legit industry experts. It is always a win to talk about the things we are building and the routines that move the needle.

Laundry does not have to be a chore you dread. It is just another process. With the right tools and a solid routine, you can get it done faster and actually enjoy it.

Stop overcomplicating things. Dial in your routine. Take those saved hours and spend them with your family, or use them to build your financially abundant future.

Keep going.
