Why The 4th Of July Is A Parenting Laundry Disaster

Between melting bomb pops and instant grass stains, holiday weekends are messy. Here is why co-founding a laundry company was a genius financial decision.

4th of July might be the most dangerous laundry day of the year for parents.

Every year our daughter finds a new way to destroy an outfit. It is almost impressive how quickly it happens. We prep for the holiday. We get everyone dressed up in their festive summer clothes. We step outside. Then the absolute chaos begins.

The 4th Of July Damage Report

  • Sunscreen: It gets smeared on a brand new shirt before we even make it to the car.
  • Ketchup handprints: I turn my back for a few minutes to check on the food. I turn around and there are ketchup handprints all over my shorts.
  • Bomb pop drips: The afternoon heat sets in. The popsicles come out of the freezer. Bomb pop drips land on everything in a 3-foot radius. The red and blue stickiness is totally unavoidable.
  • Grass stains: Just when you think you have contained the damage, the kids run off. A 45-second game of tag results in deep grass stains on the knees of whatever they are wearing.

Running a business is hard. Raising a family is harder. But these are the moments that make it all worth it.

Whenever the holiday mess starts piling up, I always remind my wife that co-founding a laundry company was actually a genius financial decision ๐Ÿ˜‚

If we had to replace every ruined outfit out of pocket, we would be completely broke by the time the fireworks started.

Built For The Trenches

We built Laundry Sauce to solve real problems. When Ian and I started this brand, we had a relentless focus on excellence. We wanted to create something that smelled incredible. We wanted it to feel like a luxury experience. But it also had to actually work in the trenches.

Real life is incredibly messy. Your detergent needs to be able to handle it.

If customers do not want your product or if it does not solve their actual problems, retail will not save you. You have to build something that everyday families can rely on when things get completely out of hand.

The Target Pit Stop

Tomorrow is a big day. You are probably making a frantic run to the store to prep for your backyard barbecue. You are going to need more hot dogs. You are definitely going to need more sunscreen.

While you are at Target grabbing those essentials tomorrow, make a pit stop in the laundry aisle.

Seeing our product on the shelves at Target never gets old. We built an 8-figure business by staying scrappy and staying hungry. Achieving retail dominance was a massive milestone for us. Now everyday parents can grab our pods right next to their groceries.

That is the entire point of building a CPG brand. You want to be exactly where your customers already are.

Enjoy The Adventure

So do not stress about the mess this weekend.

Let the kids run through the grass. Let them eat the messy popsicles. Stop worrying about keeping everything perfectly clean.

Making memories is supposed to leave a mark.

One of my biggest personal missions is to be a patient and loving father. I want to spend quality, present time daily with my family. You cannot be truly present if you are constantly freaking out about a little ketchup on your shorts.

Enjoy the adventure. Have fun with your family.
